The Gift of Dignity: Project Intentional’s Work with Families in Need

ree

When life hits hard, dignity often becomes the first thing to slip away. That’s where Project Intentional steps in—with intentional care, community, and open arms. What began in late 2019 as a heartfelt Facebook post from founder Sasha Berscheid transformed into a thriving nonprofit delivering hope to families across the Omaha metro.

Mission Snapshot

Project Intentional exists to intentionally restore dignity in women and families, one project at a time—and they do it with compassion, practicality, and purpose.

How It All Started

One holiday season, Sasha didn’t want a gift—she wanted to “adopt” a mom in need. That simple post gained over 100 heartfelt responses. By January, Sasha and her sister had taken action—and Project Intentional was born.

What Makes Them One-of-a-Kind

  • Hope Lockers: Hygiene banks placed across Omaha filled with essential items like soap, menstrual products, deodorant, and oral care—all completely free for those who need them. It’s dignity made accessible.

  • LOVE CAN Store: Each registered family receives $150 in direct support to purchase essentials for their children and household. Alongside the financial gift, they’re provided hygiene products, a warm hug, and access to community resource booths offering job help, legal aid, and more. It’s a day that blends practical help with emotional encouragement—because every caregiver deserves both.

Impact by the Numbers

  • 2021: Supported 485 caregivers and distributed over $25,000 in goods.

  • 2022: Helped 650 caregivers (serving ~1,800 children) with $35,000+ in donations.

  • 2023: Adopted 1,500 caregivers, impacting 4,380 children and distributing over $205,800 in aid.

  • 2025: Relaunched programs—with support for 300 families and restocks of Hope Lockers across the metro.

Why Your Support Matters

  • $150 sponsors a family at the LOVE CAN Store for the season—offering hygiene, gifts, and community.

  • $300 ensures that a family has essentials year-round

  • In-kind gifts like socks and hygiene products go immediately into Hope Lockers—where someone in need can "take what they need, leave what they don't."

How to Help Right Now

  1. Contribute a $150 season sponsorship—help a family walk into the holiday season with dignity.

  2. Give $300 for year-round care—help sustain and support a family across seasons.

  3. Donate socks or hygiene items for immediate distribution via Hope Lockers.

  4. Spread the word—share their story in your circles to amplify their reach.
